Malleable Harmony: A Cappella Improvised Singing with a Group with Clifton Gray

Malleable Harmony: A Cappella Improvised Singing with a Group with Clifton Gray

Humans have always embraced song. Since time truly immemorial, these forebears of ours would raise their voices to the skies above, hoping for some answer from that which they did not comprehend. …And then someone next to them sang a third above that and they both went “oh hey wow! that sounds groovy.”

Improv and music have gone hand-in-hand for a long-time. Troupes have used accompaniment to underscore scenes or to produce a whole musical show, with nationally famous acts such as those involving children requesting sweets. A cappella improvised singing can be deployed anywhere anytime, and can help you bring some vocal harmony to your troupe(s).

We won’t be focusing on solos or coming up with words, so don’t fear any of that. This workshop will cover techniques on how to build multiple layers of song, how to identify and reinforce thematic ideas in improvised harmony as they develop, and will definitely focus on the idea that most people know a lot more about chords and progression ideas than they think they do. You already have the power to take harmony in your hands and shape it as you see fit.
